Liv Curti 〰️
Hi friends! My name is Liv Curti, and I am an artist. Since I was young, I have been creating, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. Although there were times my imagination may have run too wild, like when I took a jar of raw spaghetti and decorated my entire room with it, my parents always met me with understanding because they knew art was my deepest passion.
The summer of sixth grade, I auditioned for Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, aiming to land myself in the Media Arts program. I was accepted, and attended all the way to my senior year, graduating with a 3.9 GPA. This is where I learned all about graphic design and how important it is in our world. I never considered myself to be a digital artist, because I was much more comfortable with a pencil and paper, but my incredible teachers made me realize I was made for more. That realization also helped move me towards my current goal, working towards my BFA in Graphic Design at Point Park University.
Everyday I am thankful to my family and friends who encouraged me to keep woking and creating. I wouldn’t be half of the artist I am now without their love and support. While you take the time to look through my portfolio, try and enter the mind of that girl who decorated her bedroom with spaghetti, and see how your imagination can become one of your greatest strengths.
Artist Statement.
Nothing comes from nothing. We know this to be true from science; the basic concept that you cannot make an object simply appear, but this doesn’t necessarily need to be looked at through a scientific lens. Nothing is what you start with on an artboard. No colors, no shapes, no outlines, nothing. True, you have tools to help you create, but the vast blank canvas of a new creation is the beginning of every artist’s journey. It is our job to make something from nothing.
My main goal as an artist is to build work that is not only visually appealing, but functional. Everything I place on my canvas serves a purpose and a function. The seemingly random collage of colors and shapes that may not be given a second thought by the viewer are the details that keep me up at night. I care so much about what I do, and my passion allows me to speak my mind and be honest with, not only the customer, but myself. I love a puzzle that needs to be solved, and the labor intensive thought and experimentation that occurs in a project is what makes design so complex and exciting.
Nothing comes from nothing, and perhaps some may disagree, but this statement is what moves me forward in my field. My hope is that as you explore my work, you will see the passion and dedication that I pour into my every piece.
